8 May Ukraine, together with the countries of free Europe, commemorates the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in the Second World War of 1939-1945. Introduced in 2023 year, according to the law of Ukraine, the holiday symbolizes the unity of our state with the international community in preserving the historical memory of the Second World War and its victims. The scientific library of the university joins in commemorating everyone, who fought against Nazism, and expresses deep gratitude to the generation of winners.
8 May we bow our heads before the greatness of the feat of the fallen, whose courage and self-sacrifice became a decisive contribution to the defeat of Nazi ideology. We express our deepest respect to everyone, who brought the Victory closer at the cost of incredible efforts.
The war also became an unhealed wound for our country. Ukraine lost more than 8-9 million people (including the civilian population), which indicates that, that Ukraine is one of the countries, which suffered the most during the Second World War. As recognition of the contribution to the victory over Nazism, Ukraine in 1945 became one of the co-founding states of the United Nations.
Motto "We remember. We are winning" remains relevant for 2026 year. Although in the conditions of a full-scale invasion, an additional accent is often used - "We defeated the Nazis - we will also defeat the Rashists!». The red poppy is an invariable symbol of commemoration of the dead 2014 year, which symbolizes the bloody mark of a bullet.
Today, the Ukrainian people once again have to shed blood and defend the world from the enemy, who lives according to the customs of Nazism. Today once again calls us to be resilient: we remember the price of peace and know the price of Victory. Courage has no oblivion, it is forever inscribed in the history of our country.
We thank the defenders of our state of all times and generations, who died for the freedom and independence of Ukraine! We honor the memory!
