NUS Scientific Library: international professional dialogue
8On October 9, specialists of the Admiral Makarov Scientific Library participated remotely in the work of the XI International Conference "University Library at a New Stage of Development of Social Communications", dedicated to the topic "Rethinking the ecosystem of knowledge: libraries in the era of artificial intelligence and digital transformation".
The event brought together over 300 participants from 10 countries of the world — representatives of the library community, who discussed current trends, innovative approaches and prospects for the development of university libraries in the modern digital environment.
The Conference was organized by the Scientific Library of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technology (Ukraine), Kaunas University of Technology Library (Lithuania) and Laguna Continuing Care University Library (Philippines). Strategic partners of the event were the Ukrainian Library Association and the European Network of Open Education Librarians.
During two days, the participants considered a wide range of issues, related to the transformation of library activities. The focus was on the modernization of information systems, improvement of search tools, development of electronic resources, support of open science, as well as expanding the presence of libraries in university web portals and social networks. Considerable attention was paid to finding effective ways of interacting with users and satisfying their information needs.
The use of artificial intelligence in the information field became a separate area of discussion. The latest technologies open up additional possibilities for searching, analysis and processing of information, at the same time requiring special attention to verify the authenticity of the information, compliance with the principles of academic integrity, data protection and responsible use of AI tools. Under such conditions, libraries play an important role in the formation of information culture and the development of digital competences of users.
The international format of the meeting facilitated the exchange of experience, discussion of professional developments and finding answers to common challenges for libraries. The presented ideas and practices proved the importance of inter-institutional cooperation, open professional communication and implementation of modern solutions in library activities.
Participation in such events enables the specialists of higher education libraries to expand their professional horizons and identify new opportunities for improving user service in the conditions of digital transformation.

The incomparable joy of thinking
Recently, a literary and pedagogical meeting was held at the Children's Development Center "MALYUK-NUK". "The incomparable joy of thinking» according to the tales of V. ABOUT. Sukhomlinsky. The event was initiated by the User Service Department of the Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of the Educational and Scientific Pedagogical Institute named after V.. ABOUT. Sukhomlinsky.
Symbolically, that the meeting began near the "Field of Fairy Tales" with the words of V. ABOUT. Sukhomlynsky about "school under the blue sky". Then the participants went on a literary journey through the pages of wise and kind tales of an outstanding teacher.
Theatrical mini-productions became a special highlight. Students united in creative groups, props were prepared and fairy tales staged by V. ABOUT. Sukhomlinsky, having demonstrated interesting and non-standard ways of using them in work with preschoolers.
The meeting was complemented by a thematic exhibition of works by V. ABOUT. Sukhomlinsky, prepared by the staff of the Scientific Library.
The event was a great opportunity to combine theoretical knowledge with practical activities, to reveal creative potential and improve artistic skills, communication and organizational skills of future teachers.
The meeting ended with wise instructions of V. ABOUT. Sukhomlynsky and with the symbolic words "I give my heart to the children" - words, that best convey the vocation of a true teacher.

Figures of Ukrainian historiography: Mykhailo Hrushevskyi
On the eve of the 160th anniversary of the birth of Mykhailo Hrushevskyi, a historical excursion was held in the user service department of the Scientific Library at the Educational and Scientific Humanitarian Institute "Figures of Ukrainian historiography: Mykhailo Hrushevskyi".
The participants of the event were students of the first year of the specialty "Design". During the meeting, they discovered interesting pages of the life and work of the outstanding Ukrainian historian, a scientist, public and state figure, learned about the scientist's contribution to the development of Ukrainian historical science and state building, watched a thematic video and got acquainted with the publications of Mykhailo Hrushevskyi from the fund of the department.
Such measures help not only to turn to the pages of the past, and see, how important it is today to know your own history, to preserve national memory and discover figures, who shaped Ukrainian culture, science and statehood.

Week of the mechanical engineer in the library
The week before the professional holiday – The Day of the Machine Builder in the reading room of the user service department of the Scientific Library at the Machine Building Educational and Scientific Institute of the National Academy of Sciences was full of events and meaningful meetings.
First, for those seeking education 1 and 3 courses of the Machine-Building Educational and Scientific Institute, an information hour was held "Modern library services to help mechanical engineering education". During the event, the library employees emphasized the role of the Scientific Library in ensuring the educational and scientific processes of the institute, and also presented the unique funds of the department - the largest collection of special literature of the machine-building profile in Mykolaiv.
During the event, visitors got acquainted with thematic exhibitions of literature. And although most of the publications presented are highly specialized literature, aimed mainly at senior students and specialists, books about car engines, non-traditional energy and different types of fuel also interested first-year students.
On the eve of the holiday, the department also took place Dialogue meeting near the library exhibition on the topic "Mechanical engineering: education, science, production". Lecturers of the Department of Engineering Mechanics and Engineering Technology joined the conversation, technology students 3 course and library staff.
This meeting had a more professional direction. The participants discussed the current state of the machine-building industry, got acquainted with the new teaching aids, scientific and reference publications from various fields of mechanical engineering, as well as specialized literature in foreign languages, in particular, specialized periodicals. The teachers emphasized the importance of the profession, which future engineers chose.

Freshmen open a library
September is coming to an end, and the acquaintance of first-year students with the library continues! Recently, design students visited the user service department of the Educational and Scientific Humanitarian Institute and the Faculty of Maritime Law.
During the meeting, they got acquainted with the diversity of the library fund, educational and scientific literature, artistic publications, electronic resources, and also learned about opportunities, which will help in learning, creativity and self-development.
We believe, that the library will become for our freshmen not only a place to study, but also a space for communication, creativity, looking for inspiration and a pleasant rest.

Book, that supports: Scientific library for veterans
The Center for Veteran Development of the National Academy of Sciences plays an important role in supporting veterans of the Mykolaiv Oblast and their adaptation to civilian life. Here, a space is created for obtaining the necessary information, professional development, communion, exchange of experience and establishment of social ties.
So., when the head of the Center, Oleh Shevchenko, asked the Scientific Library to hand over the literature, which could contribute to professional orientation, acquisition of new competencies, education and meaningful leisure of visitors, library specialists willingly responded to this request and began selecting relevant publications.
Technical literature was selected for the Center and handed over to Mr. Oleg, of historical and local history direction — publication, which can be a useful resource for learning, self-development, expansion of knowledge and meaningful recreation.

The library welcomes freshmen: new acquaintances, new knowledge
New school year — new acquaintances, discoveries and opportunities! This time the doors of the Scientific Library of the Admiral Makarov National Technical University were opened for first-year students of the "Physical Culture and Sports" specialty, who visited the user service department of the Educational and Scientific Humanitarian Institute, to get to know the university library.
During the meeting, library staff told freshmen about the structure, book collections, rules of use, basic services and information resources of the library. Future specialists learned, how to quickly find the necessary literature, use electronic resources and receive the necessary information for training.
Special attention was paid to the library's digital resources. After all, a modern student has the opportunity to work with information not only from the pages of printed publications, and to use electronic resources at a convenient time and from any place.
Students learned, that the library is a modern space, where you can not only find the necessary literature for studying, and to prepare for classes, work on educational tasks or just spend your free time in a comfortable atmosphere, rest between classes, chat with friends and gain strength for new things.

A new generation of students — new discoveries, new opportunities, new steps to knowledge!
This autumn, first-year students - young people - joined the large university family of NUK, curious and ready to discover the world of student life. And one of the first important acquaintances was the acquaintance with the Scientific Library of the Admiral Makarov National Shipbuilding University.
For students of the first year of groups 1341, 1151 and 1141 an informational meeting was held, during which they found out, that a modern library is not just books and shelves, and a whole space of opportunities for learning, information search, science and self-development.
Leading librarian Natalya Makhmutova introduced the first-year students to the resources and services of the library and showed, how to make learning more effective with the help of modern information resources.
Students learned, how to use the website of the Scientific Library; find the necessary editions in the electronic catalog; work with an institutional repository; use databases and electronic resources; to find high-quality and relevant scientific information; choose reliable sources for learning and independent work.
After all, university life is not only lectures and practical classes. This is also the ability to independently find knowledge, critically evaluate information and use it for personal development.
Let the acquaintance with the Scientific Library become for our first-year students only the first step in a great journey to knowledge, professional achievements and new discoveries!

Presentation of Yevhen Horburov's book "Cavaliers of the First State Awards of Ukraine in Mykolaiv Oblast"
Recently, the director of the Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences, Candidate of Sciences in Social Communications Tamara Mykolaivna Kostyrko, took part in the presentation of a new popular science local history publication by Yevhen Hryhorovych Horburov "Cavaliers of the first state awards of Ukraine in Mykolaiv Oblast".
The book was published by the "Ilion" publishing house and was presented in the Mykolaiv Regional Universal Scientific Library as part of events celebrating the 35th anniversary of Ukraine's Independence.
The author of the publication is a candidate of historical sciences, doctor of philosophy, docent, educator, researcher, collector, member of the National Union of Local Historians of Ukraine, Chairman of the Mykolaiv Regional Council Standing Committee on Science and Education, innovations, young people, family and sports, of culture and spirituality Yevhen Hryhorovych Horburov.
The publication covers a thirty-year period (1994– 2024.) and tells about the residents of the Mykolayiv region, who were the first to be awarded state awards of independent Ukraine. Historical essays contain detailed biographical information about the heroes, supplemented with unique illustrations. A separate section is devoted to the history of the establishment of state awards of Ukraine and their detailed description.
Essays about graduates of Admiral Makarov National Shipbuilding University are especially valuable for us, who became knights of state awards of Ukraine.

At the crossroads of eras: Ivan Krypyakevich and the formation of historical science
To the 140th anniversary of the birth of an outstanding Ukrainian historian, scientist and public figure Ivan Krypyakevich by the user service department of the Educational and Scientific Humanitarian Institute and the Faculty of Maritime Law (NNGI and FMP) A historical hour was held at the Admiral Makarov Scientific Library “At the crossroads of eras: Ivan Krypyakevich and the formation of historical science”, dedicated to his life and scientific heritage.
The participants of the event were students, who are studying in the "Design" specialty of NNGI. Program of the meeting, which was offered by the employees of the department, was diverse and contained a lot of educational information. Those present learned about the key milestones of a scientist's life path, his diverse activities, because his work covered fundamentally different spheres of social life. Emphasis was placed on the significant contribution of I. Krypyakevych in the development of Ukrainian historical science and the study of Ukraine's past, which returned our state to its original state, unadulterated history.
The presentation of the virtual exhibition was an important informative addition to the event “Creator of Ukrainian history: pages of the life and work of Ivan Krypyakevich”, which vividly revealed the identity of the famous Ukrainian scientist-academic.
Students were particularly interested in the opportunity to see the edition of I. Krypyakevich from the funds of the Scientific Library of the University.

May holidays - Mother's Day, Family Day and Vyshyvanka Day fill our hearts with special warmth, remind about the power of family values, the beauty of Ukrainian traditions and the importance of preserving cultural heritage. It was to these holidays that the opening exhibition "Mastery, that warms", organized by the Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences with the assistance of the university's trade union organization. The exposition became a vivid evidence of that, how creativity can give joy, to inspire and unite people around the eternal values of goodness, love and mutual support.
Works were presented at the exhibition, made in various techniques of decorative and applied art: embroidery, beading, decorative compositions, handmade products, drawings and elements of folk art. Each of them was distinguished by originality, execution skill and unique author's vision.
Especially nice, that the exhibition united people of all ages, professions and hobbies. Among the participants were teachers, students, university staff, pupils of the Children's Development Center "Malyuk-NUK" and readers of the library.

Master class on plasticine creativity in the Scientific Library
19 In May, the user service department of the Educational and Scientific Pedagogical Institute and the Faculty of Philology of the Scientific Library of the Admiral Makarov National Academy of Sciences held a creative master class on plasticine creativity "Forming a fairy tale in our hands: create, linden trees, fantasize!», dedicated to the plasticine technique - drawing with plasticine on a plane. The masters of this event were students of the "Preschool Education" department.
Students of the 1st year of various specialties of the VSP "Professional College of the Admiral Makarov National Technical University" joined the creative meeting: "Computer Science", "Computer engineering", "Social work and counseling" and others. The purpose of the event was to acquaint young people with modern techniques of artistic activity, promote the development of creative abilities, imagination and emotional expression, and also create conditions for rest and relief of psycho-emotional tension.
During the event, the participants learned about the peculiarities of plasticine as a type of decorative and applied art, mastered the basic methods of working with plasticine - kneading, swinging, creating individual elements and applying them to the base. Craftsmen demonstrated the basic techniques of plasticine and shared the secrets of creating bright compositions.
The practical part involved independent performance of creative works. Work with soft material, repetitive movements and combinations of colors promoted relaxation, concentration and restoration of internal balance. The atmosphere of peace and creativity helped the participants to distract themselves from everyday worries, to reduce the level of tension and feel the joy of self-expression. During the event, a friendly atmosphere prevailed, creative atmosphere, which contributed to active communication and exchange of ideas.
The workshop ended with a mini-exhibition of creative works, during which the participants presented their own products and shared their impressions. Each work was distinguished by its originality, brightness and creative approach.

Sea, books and the word: a creative meeting with Anton Sanchenko in the Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences
A creative meeting with the writer Anton Sanchenko gathered connoisseurs of modern Ukrainian literature in the reading room of the Scientific Library of the Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding, sea adventures, the history of seafaring and geographical discoveries.
Anton Vitaliyovych Sanchenko is a sailor, marine writer, translator, developer of information search and analytical systems, head of the editorial and publishing department of the Institute of the Military and Naval Forces of Ukraine - the author of about two dozen of his own books and translations of maritime-related works, in particular, the works of Raphael Sabatini, Rudyard Kipling, Dan Simons, Alistair McLean.
Mr. Anton has not visited the National Shipbuilding University for the first time, to present their new editions. However, the intimate and warm atmosphere of the reading room of the Scientific Library this time especially contributed to the sincere and relaxed communication of the participants of the meeting.
The author introduced the audience to his new edition - "The Beauties Choose Lysyansky" - a continuation of the story about Yuri Lysyansky - a native of Nizhyn, navigator and explorer, captain of the first rank, one of the leaders of the first round-the-world trip in the former Russian Empire, 1803–1806.
To the question of the moderator of the event - the head of the department of the Scientific Library, Natalia Simonenko - about the uniqueness of marine science in general and Ukrainian science in particular, about the peculiarities of the "adventure novel" genre, the figure of Yuriy Lysyanskyi, the author's appeal to the topic of war and the value of the unique publication "Digests of the Fierce War", the author answered with his characteristic sociability, humor and sincerity.
Anton Sanchenko also invited those willing to participate in the unique Contest of Ukrainian maritime prose named after. Lysyansky "Matelot", which he is the moderator of 2017 year. The author familiarized those present with the terms of participation, told about the members of the jury and the reward, which awaits the winners.
Time flew by imperceptibly, and at the end of the conversation, one of the participants of the meeting took the floor - a professor of the Department of Ukrainian Language, literature and teaching methods, candidate of philological sciences Taras Kremin. He thanked Mr. Anton Sanchenko for his cooperation and noted, that the National Shipbuilding University is a partner of the "Matelot" competition and he, as a teacher, will in every way contribute to the active participation of talented students in this project.

Educational space of the library: let's celebrate Europe Day together
To Europe Day in Ukraine employees of the user service department of the Educational and Scientific Humanities Institute and the Faculty of Maritime Law of the Scientific Library of the Admiral Makarov National Academy of Sciences organized a thematic event for students of the first year of the "Design" specialty. The event combined cognitive information, interactive communication and festive atmosphere.
During the meeting, the participants learned about the history of the holiday, its significance for the European community and its importance for Ukraine. The discussion contributed to a better understanding of common European values - peace, cooperation, cultural diversity and development.
The interactive part of the event was a thematic quiz. Students actively answered questions about European countries, their traditions, symbols and interesting facts. Participants received sweet prizes for correct answers, which created a friendly atmosphere and added positive emotions. The winner of the quiz was a student of the group 1531 Fedorova Victoria, which demonstrated the best knowledge and activity. She received the main prize and hearty applause from the participants.
Employees of the department also prepared a review of professional literature on design. Future designers had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with modern publications, professional manuals and book novelties, which will be useful during study and creative activities.

Easter traditions in the library: master class on pysankari at NUK
10 On April 1, a special atmosphere reigned in the reading room of the Scientific Library - here, in anticipation of Easter, the space was filled with warmth, creativity and festive mood. Together with the university community, the library has turned into a cozy workshop, where a real miracle was born. An inspiring master class on painting Easter Easter eggs was held for students and teachers.
The program of the event was meaningful and diverse: she harmoniously combined centuries-old traditions of pysankarst with modern creative approaches. The participants had the opportunity to try themselves in various techniques, feel the symbolism of the ornaments and create your own unique Easter eggs.
The exhibition-installation "The World of Ukrainian Easter Eggs" was a bright information addition to the event., which was prepared by the staff of the Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences. Emphasized the importance of responsible use of sources, prevention of plagiarism and formation of a culture of honesty in the academic environment.
In her speech, the head of the information and bibliographic department of the Scientific Library of the Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding, Kateryna Bilonozho, highlighted the university's experience in observing and popularizing the principles of academic integrity, emphasized its influence on the quality of education and further professional activity. She talked about the development of informational materials and the holding of events, aimed at revealing the principles of academic integrity.
Victoria Donii, Associate Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Studies and Social Sciences of the Mykolaiv National Agrarian University outlined the key aspects of academic ethics and emphasized, that the teacher plays a decisive role in the formation of values, models of behavior and professional ethics of future specialists. She also noted, that the creation of a favorable educational environment is based on the principles of honesty, trust and mutual respect between all participants in the educational process.

A training on academic integrity was held at the Department of Economics and Digital Business
Scientific Library of NUS named after. adm. Makarova conducted training, dedicated to the current topic of academic integrity. Undergraduate and graduate students took part in the event, who showed significant interest in the issues of compliance with the principles of honesty and responsibility in education and scientific activity.
During the training, the participants got acquainted with the basic principles of academic integrity, learned, why it is an important component of quality education and modern academic culture. Special attention was paid to types of academic violations, in particular, plagiarism, writing off, fabrication and falsification of data.
Students also received practical recommendations on correct work with scientific sources, design of citations and references, and also got acquainted with modern tools for checking texts for uniqueness.

A meeting with memory: library employees - at the exhibition "Tested by War"
The trial of war is the most terrible of trials, which may befall a person or a country, and it is precisely through this test that our Ukraine and all of us are going through, Ukrainians. "Trials by war" - this is exactly the name of the exhibition, which, until the 4th anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine, worked in the museum of the Educational and Scientific Pedagogical Institute named after V.. ABOUT. Sukhomly National University of Shipbuilding named after Admiral Makarov. Among the first visitors were employees of the Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences, with which the museum has close cooperation.
Visitors were introduced to the sections of the exhibition by O. P. Khayetskyi is the director of the museum, candidate of historical sciences, docent. Materials about students and graduates of the institute occupy a prominent place in the exhibition, who gave their lives in battles for the territorial integrity of Ukraine. Glory to the Heroes! Separate sections of the exhibition are devoted to the activities of volunteers, as well as educational and scientific activities of the institute under martial law.

Super mission: save the book!
20 In February, the bright and creative Children's Book Week ended at the Children's Development Center "Malyuk NUK"., dedicated to International Book Day! The event took place in the format of an interactive adventure "Super mission: Save the book!», that combined reading, the game, creativity and cognitive activity.
The guests of the Week were the employees of the service department of the Scientific Library of the Admiral Makarov National University of Education and Science Pedagogical Institute - true friends of children's reading, who prepared a bright book exhibition of children's literature, which became a real decoration of the Book Week!
Colorful publications - large and small - shone on the shelves, with thick pages and voluminous illustrations, with fairy-tale characters, animals, adventures and good stories. The exhibition turned into a real book rainbow - a space of warmth, imagination and discoveries!
Little readers turned the pages with interest and discovered new book worlds and were able to experience them, that a book is a friend, who is always there and always ready to tell a new story. Each book seemed to speak: "Open me - and I will give you a miracle!».
During the event, librarians not only immersed children in the world of fairy tales, and had a useful meeting with parents. They told, how to choose the right books according to the child's age, what to pay attention to while reading and how to make family reading a daily tradition.
Parents learned about the meaning of illustrations, the amount of text, topics and languages of publications for different age groups. Special attention was paid to that, how to develop speech through a book, imagination and emotional intelligence of children.
Library employees also took part in a master class on making illustrations for the future yarn book.
The book week has become a real holiday of reading, which united the children, parents, teachers and librarians. The meeting became a sincere dialogue about joint family reading, the role of adults in the formation of the future reader and contributed to the formation of a positive attitude towards books and the library as a space of discoveries, creativity and inspiration.

Educational and methodical seminar “Policy of open science”
A seminar for scientists of the Educational and Scientific Pedagogical Institute named after V.O. was held in the Scientific Library of the National Shipbuilding University named after Admiral Makarov. Sukhomlinsky, devoted to topical issues of the implementation of the open science policy in the university environment.
During the event, the participants got acquainted with the basic principles of open science, modern international and national approaches to open access, as well as the role of university libraries in supporting scientific research and disseminating its results.
Special attention was paid to the issue of research data management;
the possibilities of using the international ZENODO platform for storage, spreading and increasing the visibility of scientific publications and research data;
access and use of resources of the EIFL-Ukraine Consortium;
The participants of the seminar were also presented with the information possibilities of the "Open Science" and "Scientific Research" sections of the website of the Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences, which contribute to the development of open science, academic integrity and informational support of researchers.
Within the discussion of practical aspects of scientific activity, the issue of editing and updating profiles of scientists of the Educational and Scientific Pedagogical Institute named after V.. ABOUT. Sukhomlinsky, in particular, with the aim of increasing the visibility of scientific publications and the correct presentation of research activities in the digital space.
The seminar became a useful platform for sharing experiences, raising awareness of the tools of open science and strengthening the role of the library as an information and consultation center for the scientific community of the university.
