27 Valery Vasyliovych Babych - the author of books about Mykolaiv and its aircraft carriers - celebrates his 85th birthday in January, a singer of ocean waves and shipbuilding glory of his native city. Against the background of two military campaigns in an exciting diary form it tells about aircraft carrier cruisers - the largest and most complex ships, which were created by our shipbuilding industry. It is about the development of the class of aircraft carriers and carrier-based aviation, about the naval arms race and the fierce confrontation between the two military-political blocs in the ocean spaces.

The book tells about unique ships, built in Mykolaiv - from dreadnought battleships of the "Empress Maria" type to heavy aircraft carrier cruisers "Admiral Kuznetsov", "Varyag" and "Ulyanovsk". Separate sections are devoted to the creators of vertical takeoff and landing aircraft Yak-38 and Yak-141, Su-27K and MiG-29K fighters, anti-submarine helicopters Ka-25PL and Ka-27, radar surveillance and guidance aircraft and helicopters Yak-44 RLDN and Ka-31 RLDN.

The author is Valery Vasyliovych Babych, shipbuilding engineer. Participated in the creation of all our aircraft carriers, worked as the head of the design bureau for aircraft carriers and a complex of naval aviation tests "Nytka" at the Black Sea Shipyard in Mykolaiv.

IN. Babich captured the golden era of Mykolaiv shipbuilding in words and pictures. He began his literary career in 2000 year, laying down the foundation of the annals Mykolaiv aircraft carrier and systematizing the history of the industry in its publications. His works are the voice of an entire era, when Mykolaiv was the cradle of the aircraft carrier fleet. In the creative work of V. IN. Babich masterfully intertwines technical perfection and deep artistic content. He managed to explain complex shipbuilding in understandable language even to a discerning reader. Thanks to Valery Babich, we know the names of not only ships, but also people, who built them. It is called the heart, that beats in unison with the sea and the chronicler of aircraft carriers. Valery Vasyliovych is a member of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine , laureate of the Mykolaiv regional mass media competition "ProMedia" ( 2002 ), "Golden Feather" award ( 2006 ) and named after M.M. Arkasa ( 2012 ).
