Mykolayiv Region is rightfully proud of the names of outstanding scientists, who have glorified the region far beyond its borders with their work. Karl Khristoforovych Knorre occupies a special place among them (1801–1883) – видатний астроном, a talented organizer of science, the first director of the Mykolaiv Astronomical Observatory, man, who devoted her life to the study of the starry sky.

IN 2026 year is fulfilled 225 years since Karl Knorre's birthday and 205 years since the founding of the Mykolaiv Astronomical Observatory - one of the oldest scientific institutions in Ukraine. These two anniversary dates are inextricably linked, because the formation and development of the observatory is closely related to the name of its first director.

Before these memorable dates, the Scientific Library offers to get acquainted with the virtual exhibition "Karl Knorre - a man, which conquered the Mykolaiv sky". The exposition illuminates the life path of a scientist, his scientific achievements, contribution to the development of astronomical research and the establishment of the Mykolaiv Astronomical Observatory as a leading scientific center of its time.

It was thanks to Karl Knorre's many years of activity that the observatory became an important center of astronomical science, and the results of his research have gained international recognition. The materials presented at the exhibition will help to get to know the researcher's personality more deeply, to open the little-known pages of his biography and evaluate the significance of his scientific heritage for the development of world astronomy, and also familiarize yourself with the history of the observatory, яка вже понад два століття залишається символом наукових традицій Миколаєва.
